A Veteran’s Journey

A client is housed thanks to our first collaboration at the Neighborhood Hands Resource Fair in San Jose

On October 5, 2024, during our very first collaboration at the Neighborhood Hands Resource Fair in San Jose, we met a new client who was seeking help. As we sat down to conduct his intake, we learned something important—he’s a U.S. military veteran.

We are strategic about our intake questions, and that answer set our housing plan in motion. Our team immediately began working to obtain a HUD-VASH housing voucher for him. Once the VA confirmed his eligibility, we submitted the HUD-VASH referral worksheet for processing. HUD-VASH provides stable housing and supportive services for veterans.

We’re thrilled to share the good news: he moved into his new apartment on April 25!

This is the power of collaboration, persistence, and community.
